Artmosphere Community Arts Center is located in the historic Walter R. And Eliza Smith Moore House, c. 1835. The Walter R. and Eliza Smith house is Johnston County’s 2nd oldest home. The house is on the National Registry for Historic Places for it's Federal style architecture and elaborate craftsman trim-work adorning the exterior. The interior maintains some of the original molding and mantel trim as well as most of the original floors. There are 5 out buildings. One is an original building used as a meat house. One other out building was a passed general store and was moved at some point from across Raleigh Rd to its current location. The Moore Family were farmers and owned an estimated 1,000 acres surrounding the property. The land has been divided and sold through the past century . The house has changed ownership 10 times and was renovated in 1989. The house and the remaining 4 acres it sits on warrant a visit to gain a little historic culture as well as to enjoy what the Arts Center has to offer.
